2nd Consilient Health Insurance Roundtable - Oman
Our second Oman Health Insurance Roundtable held on 14 January at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Muscat attracted 20 senior figures from insurers and third party administrators. The event was also attended by representatives from the Capital Market Authority who observed proceedings.
The main message from the audience was that the market is uncertain of what compulsory health insurance might look like and needs support and more information from regulators.
Consilient continues to offer advice and support to insurers and administrators seeking to capitalise on the opportunities available in the Sultanate.
Oman CMA issues tender for actuarial services
Oman's Capital Market Authority issued on 1 February a limited tender for actuarial services to support development of its compulsory health insurance scheme for expatriates and nationals working in the private sector. The document talks about the design of an essential benefits package but leaves open the design and pricing asking actuaries to provide a number of options. We understand the closing date for submissions was 12 February.
Although news from CMA
since its announcement on 25 September last yearhas been scant this is a positive sign that progress is being made behind the scenes
Technology the focus for the 3rd Consilient Health Insurance Roundtable - Dubai
Our third Dubai Health Insurance Roundtable was held at the Capital Club on 25 January and was supported by leading technology company SAP and the regional law firm BSA Ahmad Bin Hezeem & Associates. The focus was on helping the audience of 30 senior executives understand the challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies and how regulation must keep pace to support the insurance industry.
Look out for our technology article in March Middle East Insurance Review
On the back of our Roundtable we will feature in next month's MEIR with a two page article explaining the threats posed by new technologies such as Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and what traditional insurers need to do to protect their market shares against "insuretech" distribution.
Upcoming conferences for 2018

One of our services is the preparation of health insurance market study reports for market participants considering an entry into or an expansion in the region. The most popular countries at present are Oman and Bahrain, both of which will be launching mandatory health insurance in 2018.
We provide customised reports based upon whether the client is an insurer, reinsurer, broker or TPA and whether they are regional or international.
These are not "copy and paste" reports, a technique used by some consulting firms to maximize revenue from minimal effort.
We can provide you with customization to meet your needs and budget. Please click below to send us an enquiry.
