Reports from international health insurance conferences in Vienna and Prague
Our Head of Practice, Robin Ali, was honoured to be a speaker at recent conferences with an international flavour held in Europe.
In a snowy Vienna, Euroevents held its 2nd Excellence in Health Insurance conference with 22 speakers mainly from across Europe but including UAE and USA. The topics included new technology, workplace wellness, product innovation and cyber risk. An audience of around 50 high ranking insurance professionals made the networking extremely
The following week in an equally cold Prague, ZS Events held its Global Health Insurance Conference 2018. This truly international event included speakers from Europe, USA, Indonesia, Ghana, Nigeria and 3 from UAE and was attended by an audience of around 50 people.
What was clear from these conferences was that smaller events produce much better networking opportunities compared to Middle East events where two thirds of the audience spend most of their time
outside the auditorium indulging in coffee, pastries and industry gossip!

Consilient to expand its events proposition to conference organisation
Over the last two years, Consilient has hosted regular and highly successful Health Insurance Roundtables in both UAE and Oman, attended by invited C-suite executives and country heads of health insurers, brokers, claims administrators and healthcare providers.
We are now expanding our events proposition to the organisation of health insurance specific conferences initially in Europe, in the Middle East and in Africa. These "boutique" events will each feature
between 20 and 25 highly respected speakers with international experience relevant to each region. Our events will also focus on attracting a quality audience of senior decision makers and influencers limited to no more than 50 delegates to ensure that networking opportunities are maximised.
These events will be exclusive, the intention being to attract the highest profile speakers and a high profile audience. If you would like to be involved either as a speaker or as a sponsor please click the button below to email us your interest noting whether you are interested in sponsorship, speaking or both. If your interest includes speaking please
indicate your range of topics.
For those of you interested in the medical travel market, this forthcoming annual summit organized by the UK based International Medical Travel Journal (part of Laing Buisson) is the leading conference on medical tourism. It is bold, provocative and takes place in Athens on 22/23 May.
Robin Ali will be speaking on the topic of the attractiveness (or not) of Middle East countries as medical travel destinations.

A recent report by Moody's suggests an increase in M&A activity in the region. To an extent we disagree.
Our Head of Practice, Robin Ali, has attended and spoken at conferences in the region for over 10 years and every year various consultancy firms have predicted a coming wave of M&A. It has rarely happened.
Regarding the Moody's report, it was the result of a survey of just 12 UAE insurance CFOs. Only 3 of those expected to see more M&A activity.
We do believe that consolidation is necessary, but the obstacles are significant, not least, the fact that shareholders of local companies see the inclusion of an insurance entity within their conglomerate as a "nice to have".
However, we also
believe that regulatory changes in the area of risk based capital will leave these shareholders with no option but to consider divestment.
We have the local knowledge to be able to assist both potential buyers and sellers.
If you or your shareholders are interested in merger, acquisition or divestment please contact Robin Ali directly and in confidence on +971 50 104 7058
Expanding your footprint in the Middle East?
One of our services is the preparation of health insurance market study reports for market participants considering an entry into or an expansion in the region. The most popular countries at present are Oman and Bahrain, both of which will be launching mandatory health insurance in 2018.
We provide customised reports based upon whether the client is an insurer, reinsurer, broker or TPA and whether they are regional or international.
These are not "copy and paste" reports, a technique used by some consulting firms to maximize revenue from minimal effort.
We can provide you with customization to meet your needs and budget. Please click below to send us an enquiry.
